I don’t yet have the manual for the above. Can anyone tell me what the weight is (less stand)? I need to make plans to move it and I certainly don’t want to drop it.

      Andrew.

          Thanks Ian,

I thought that two people would be able to shift it. But as all the folk I can co opt are geriatric. like me, a trolley and engine hoist look a better bet!

          Thanks again,

          Andrew.

I moved mine (by myself) some 25-30 years ago but for the Sieg I purchased an engine crane.

Thinking back, I did ‘lighten’ it quite considerably by removing the motor, tailstock, covers and cross-slide. I have a vague memory of lifting it in stages (at alternate ends) up to bench level but it would most definitely be with a crane these days.   🙂

            Regards,

Clearly it’s top heavy and also likely to tip backwards.
If, and only if, the headstock drive belt is a split link one, removing that belt allows the whole of the motor and rear casting to come off as a single unit.
Without the motor/belt guards and tailstock, the whole thing becomes more manageable, and less susceptible to damage.

You can definitely take the motor and it’s mounting plate off, this makes it less back heavy

Motor off, tailstock off, chuck off, compound off and if you feel like it change wheels off. id hate to think how much that lot lightens it.

As per my previous post, provided the drive belt is a link type, you can remove the whole of the motorising assembly as a single unit.
                    Remove belt guards 90 & 91
The unit is then only attached by some screws, 63, and a stud 64, which is helpfully located in a slot rather than a hole.

As I recall, the left hand vertical pair, through the green holes, are fiddly to access, needing a long ¼” drive.

Hex Allen screw replacements might be easier.
