Is there a preferred calculator for selecting change gear combinations for an arbitrary thread pitch on a Myford ML7? The manual provides all the standard pitches (provided you can decode it) but the ML7 is the only lathe we have that can cut metric or arbitrary threads and I’d like to be ready if called on to cut a, say, 13.234 TPI thread. No particular reason why. 13.234 TPI was just grabbed out of thin air.

i have used Duncan Munro’s gear calculator for a number of years:

        https://metal.duncanamps.com/software.php

It knows the standard set of gears and allows you to add any extras you may have.

It knows what combinations will mesh without interference.

It knows what gear trains will fit on the banjo

It allows you to set an acceptable pitch error.

There is also ride The Gear Train as an on-line calculator.
