gun metal cylinders

Hi I have just bought 2 gun metal cylinders for a steam model. They have a 2" bore X 3 1/2" stroke. This would make a large model. They are marked top and bottom so they were expected to be used vertically like on a vertical engine or even on a horizontal mill engine. Could some kind person indentify what model they would be used on . Thankyou so much Adrian

I can't find my set of drawings to confirm the bore but I'm 99% sure they are from "Galloway's Non Dead Centre engine" hard to find a pic of one without timber around the cylinders but this pic shows the 3 decorative ribs, row of studs down the sides of the valve chest and the lack of studs where chest interupts the cylinder cover PCD.

You should be able to scratch build the rest

Thankyou for your reply. I have looked at Galloway`s non dead centre engine pics and I am happy to agree these are for this engine. I bought them for £9 from a car boot sale here in Southampton. A very good bargain, now all I need are the drawings. Then i can make a start. Once again thanks for all the help. Adrian

The drawings are actually in metric, 50mm bore and 95mm O/A length.

Thankyou for your help and information. I will certainly look into Polly Model Engineering. Its good to know that the dimensions are metric at least I won`t be forcing imperial into the tapped holes of the cylinders. Adrian

That does not mean that the original builder would have used metric fixings! Infact Anthony tends to dimension in metric and use BA and ME threads.
