I had to find out myself how to do the removal of the slideway boss. One kind person offered to copy the relevant page of the instruction manual but it was too late the problem was solved.
The ram was on my bench so I lifted it into a vertical position and sprayed a lot of WD40 into the depression made by the ram and the boss pivot, this was about 1/8 of an inch. two days later the depression was empty, a good sign.
I reassembled the ram in the machine as this was the safest way to carry out the work. I had found an instruction manual which I had bought at the time of the purchase of the shaper. The instruction for loosening the cam was to rotatate the square shank clockwise, which I did and I also removed the retaining screw for the cam and the locking screw for the boss, which are side by side. Pouring large quantities of WD40 into the holes. The cam was loose in it's bore but light tapping with a rubber hammer had no effect.
Then with my designers cap on it bacame obvious to me that the cam would be free to be withdrawn if the slideway was turned through 180 degrees. After a lot of rubber hammering, the slideway was now in the wrong position and upon tapping the cam it came out like a dream.
A lot more tapping and wrenching from side to side and the boss was free. The clamp operates in in the semi circular groove in the boss and in the safest position (180 degrees from normal) there is a small rebate in in this groove which allows withdrawal of the cam and that is how they designed it.
