Does round plastic drive belt warp?

I got a bench drill where the V belt between the two pulleys will make a sort of oval shape when left on its own instead of a circle because it has formed itself around the pulleys. Does anyone know if polyeurethane round drive belt will do this as well?

I have a plan where the belt will be tensioned by the weight of the motor driving it so the problem I was wondering about is whether the uneven belt will make the motor jiggle about and make everything shake.

The round belting(green) I bought has got an extremely rough surface and runs my Geo Thomas drill with the belt being extremely slack.. The previous belt, round, red and smooth, just got rotted (by the sun?) and fell into many pieces.

Shape that is formed by an non tensioned belt makes no difference to its performance when tensioned. Stockists often hang belts from a single point so will form oval while hanging in stock. So long as the belt has not perished and gone hard it should function well enough. Round belting is used for low torque applications.

I had some red do that after 15 years in the cupboard, it's just age.

All belts run at an oval shape, centrifugal force makes it bow out between pulleys. My first round plastic belts gave up after a few years back, from old age.

It's a shame you can't get the rubber vee belting that has a woven intermesh throughout, they last for years. But i dont know who'd sell it.

I'd strongly recommend having a way to bolt this motor to its set tension, belting relies on consistent tension in order to drive properly, the cutting forces could force the spindle to slow down because the belt will ride up.
