Well hello all..!

So bit of an update, since finishing the rebuild of the mill at the back end of last year I only had 1 further thing I was set to do which was fit the DRO which got paused while a did some of the jobs that were waiting.

I Started using the mill for various jobs and to be honest it exceeded my expectations (never thought to photo or video though – sorry (I’ll try and get something as pictures reveal far more than just taking my word for it!).

I got to the point that locking the unused axis was almost never done yet the parts and surface finish were unaffected (terrible habit I know). Cut depth etc were only really limited by the cutting tool being used.

Until I needed to remove a fair amount of metal form a chunk of steel a little harder than EN1 so I used my 5 flute 50mm insert shell mill.

Oh dear. So I tried 1 of my 20mm 2 flute insert cutters. Not quite so oh dear but still of no use.

So as I have gone to such lengths so far just in order to fly cut a piece of aluminium what the hell..

In the words of the chap from Inheritance Machining – the side project count has just risen to 2 !😲🙄
