I see many UK online suppliers list LG2 and SAE 660 as one and the same item, when they clearly and definately are not. Given the general low stresses that our hobby made steam engines usually encounter is it worth discerning between the merrits of both or is it a case that we would never notice the difference? My application is main bearings, oil lubricatedon a 1/2" crank at under 500 rpm. Advice please?

I have looked at the alloy contents of both and for our purposes they are the same, both leaded bronze. The LG2 has more lead in it and the 660 has more tin. I have machined the 660 and it is nice to work with, and would expect the LG2 to be similar. I'm sure someone with steam engine experience can recommend one over the other.
