I suppose that in the old days there would be a pile of submitted articles arriving via the post to choose from

Nowadays the keener ME people can produce their own website and fill it with assorted ideas and articles

If you want to make it easier for the ME and the general community then a submissions system like this forums board could be used

A logged in poster has access to a private thread they can build into an article with text and jpgs

Only people like yourself have access to these threads, there is no public access

A button can be pressed by the poster when they believe their article is ready for review/submission

This submissions thread section could be added to the green bar at the top of the page that a user sees when logged in (The my-albums my-posts bit)

        Hi Ady,

It sounds good in principle, but I can see a host of problems in practice, not least that with this system it is impractical to compose articles on line. My article here was edited on my computer then uploaded and the pictures inserted. It is also very hard to make changes and images would be restricted to jpegs at reduced resolution.

Much better for people to work on their own computer with maximum flexibility then send me text and images by email, dropbox, CD or DVD.

For now, I'm specifically trying to encourage short articles which should be easy to send by email as a document (or even email text) plus some attached pictures/drawings.

It's up to ME management to get together with a tecchy dude and upgrade the system permissions or be stuck in the dark ages

At the end of the day ME makes money from peoples contributions and ideas so making the submissions system easy peasy makes easy peasy money for ME

Can't really see what difficult about e-mailing Neil an article you have typed on a word processor that you are used to using and attached images that have been edited on your own software.

A lot of members find it hard enough to add a link or photo with this forums programme let alone publish an article.

I`ve found that bee dung is not much use for my roses but orse dung is far superior. Perhaps Clive can suggest a suitable use for bee dung?

Sorry Ady, I can't really see what it would add. Anyone with experience of online editors will know that even the best technology doesn't give you the facilities of even free word processors like Open Office or Libre Office. The same goes for image editing programmes.

As Jason says, sending an email with attachments is easier than posting on the forum.

I hope your comments don't put anyone off. My aim is to look for ways to make the magazine even better and I'm trying to broaden the range of contributors (who get paid) and increase the range of topics covered by each issue. That's good for everyone, not just the publishers.

Flying Fifer, yes, bees do defacate! I always pitied any woman who put washing out in the Spring as the bees come out after a week or two in the hive. The bees go straight to the white sheets and crap on them, this being the residue of nectar and pollen. Leaving brown stains about 5mm in diameter. They wash out OK but the shrieking and swearing is to behold as the washing is found to be fouled.

This first happened to my Mother as my Father had a hive at the end of the garden and on a fine day out went the washing and it was covered in brown spots. No woman likes re-washing a second time. Ask one and see.

I've moved the other discussions here, so they don't distract from the thread aimed at encouraging new contributors.

                          Hi Ady,
I agree with Neil. I am running out of space on my Tiscali website as the allocation is only 5 Mb. After seeing Mike Cox's website on Weebly I decided to try putting my website there. I created a new website and had it running on my computer. It was only then I decided to register with Weebly but after registering I found they do not provide a normal web service where you just upload the website using FTP. It probably would have only taken about 10 minutes to upload. To use their web hosting service you have to create the website online. I have found this very time consuming and find it much easier to create the website on my own PC. I think this would be the problem with the way you are suggesting to create articles.

                          Les.
