i have an old vehicle [1972 ford ranchero] put it in for a MOT it passed . one advisory slight play in pitman arm. the ball joint is part of the arm. nice easy job. easy to get to and only two nuts hold it on. if only a new one was available. has anybody ever rebuilt one

At first glance, there are different part numbers for power and manual steering, as well as after market upgrades.
Likelihood is that the part fits more than on model of car, so searching for an alternative might work.

I appreciate that this is a US site, but just to illustrate that it’s used on more than one car.

A photo of the part would be helpful ! If it really is unobtainable then it’s dimensions, particularly the tapered pin on the ball joint are what matter. Some vehicles use press in ball joints so one of these could be an option – machine away the old one and press a new one in. Welding on an end that has the right ball joint would have risks – that the heat of welding will damage the joint, possibly due to the spring going soft or melting a plastic ball seat. There is the chance that the weld could fail !

This is a safety critical component so MUST NOT fail, what ever you do bear this in mind.  Good luck   Noel.

yes there thousands of them out there but sadly not the one i want. loads for the struggle steering car and none for the power steering. everything for this vehicle has to be imported from the USA.

I’m pretty certain the Lincoln was power only and most 70’s Cougars.

They are a swine to remove.

Are you sure it’s not play in the box and the MOT man is mistaken.

At the end of the day you may need a rack conversion or maybe someone in the UK refurbs Range Rover pitmans.
