You should be able to do something similar with the software, out of curiosity what are you using to design and build your website ? This is the website I run for my club http://www.blackcountrysteam.co.uk link

Look at the source of that page – apart from the fact that they add Google trackers to those accessing the page (why?) it is straightforward + fairly simple HTML code – if you are happy with a static page (ie you don’t provide any interaction to individual customers) but just for example serve pdf copies of archived mags or text + pictures then a simple site is all you want – once you start adding fancy interaction you are on a treadmill of always having someone needing to keep on top of security updates to avoid those trying to misuse your site to spam etc.
That said there are many companies that will sell (or supply freely if you pay for their hosting) packages you can adapt to your own specific needs. My own site (nothing to do with model engineering) is simple HTML and works ok for my needs to host archival material – try looking at other model engineering sites (eg Mike Cox’s) and ask their webmaster how much maintenance is required.

I suspect that has been done manually. Uploading a pdf and creating a simply hyperlink will take a fraction of the time of scanning.

Are you using a CMS to make the website? If so, which one? There is probably an indexing add-on that you can use.
