I feel justified in highlighting this video for my basic dividing head on the forum as my website stats and correspondence received, shows it, surprisingly, to be third in popularity after my two grinding rests. It can achieve 58 divisions between 2 and 99 plus many useful ones over 99 including 100, 125 and 360.

It is a good choice for the home workshop owner who does not require the capabilities of the commercial Semi Universal dividing head or my full function dividing head

A link to the video can be found on this page on my website.

I am pleased to here Mick that you have made the three items you mention and are pleased with the results.

You finish your comments by saying "keep em coming". As far as the videos are concerned I have around 12 already finished which I am publishing at one a week which will take them up to the end of the year. However, I only add to the forum those that are of particular interest, three so far, but have already published 10 videos a list of these being on my website here

Should any one reading this like to be informed of the remainder as they are issued then go to the correspondence page on my website and ask to be added to my mailing list.

The two additional items that Mick mentions can be found here and here

and a few still to complete showing my grinding rests being use to sharpen various workshop tools

I have been toying with making a dividing head to save standing the 10" rotary table up on end as it is a bit bulky. I have just ordered the books "Dividing" and "Workshop Projects". These will keep me busy over the winter months when I am in between motorcycle related jobs. I will use the basic dividing design and adapt to suit my spare chucks etc.

I'm just about to fly-cut my first gear using a commercial rotary table and dividing plates. It's the first time I've used the dividing plates and I've mislaid the instructions.

Those holes, prime-numbers, ratios and scissor things were a mega-headache until I remembered I own a copy of Workshop Practice No 37, now open at Table 3, "Divisions Possible with a 90:1 Dividing Head".

Good book Harold. Now I know what I'm supposed to do.

                Many Thanks,

                Dave

I use a rotary table of my own design as a dividing head. I don't use dividing plates, just a scale that's got 6-minute divisions, or 0.1 degree. I work by using a spreadsheet to round up all the divisions I use to the neatest division so each one is a maximum of 0.05 degrees out.

If that sounds a bit coarse it's a maximum error of 2.5 thou at six inches diameter, which is probably far less than the error in my home-made worm-wheel.
