Does anyone know of a 4" rotary table with a three jaw chuck. All the ones on flea bay have 4 jaw chucks and I don't want to buy a separate 3 jaw chuck .

Quite honestly, Eric … I think you might find a 3-Jaw very frustrating to use on the Rotary Table.

It obviously depends exactly what you want to do with it … but in many cases you will probably want to centre a particular point over the axis of rotation.

Have a good think before you decide.

Strange – all the ones that came up including a chuck had a three jaw when I looked. However I must agree with Michael – I have an adaptor to take lathe chucks with my rotary table and I can't remember ever using the three jaw. 4 jaw yes and collet chuck occasionally but usually just T-nuts and clamps.

If you only have one rotary table chuck get a 4-jaw. A 4-jaw chuck can be used to hold round bars and is more accurate than a 3-jaw. Does not take long to find the center with a DTI. It can also hold square, rectangular and odd shaped components.

I have use an adaptor to take my lathe chucks which allows me to transfer the job from lathe to mill without removing the job from the chuck. Keeping the job on the exact same center.

RDG tools do a smashing 4 inch rotary table, and, it comes equipped with a chuck adapter for Myford threaded chucks. http://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/4—-100mm-Rotary-Table-for-Myford-Lathe-Vertical-Slide-1638.html

I have found it can be quite tricky using an adapter that allows the chuck to screw on, the cutter direction or the rotation can cause the chuck to unscrew.

My lathe chuck is bolted to a backing plate and secured with 4 bolts and is centered by a spigot on the backing plate. When I move it to the rotary table, I unbolt it from the lathe backing plate and bolt it to the rotary table with T-nuts. The rotary table also has a spigot to locate it on center.
