Don’t bother with Phoenix Precision Paints etch primers as their site says it’s ineffective on stainless steel, also all their etch primers are out of stock, and have been for at least six weeks, two ignored emails asking when they were likely to restock totally ignored and a phone call asking got the reply sometime soon. Make sure that whatever etch primer you use can handle the heat of the smokebox, I know that Upol Acid#8, available in car accessories shops will take the heat as I have used it on ally smokeboxes with a high temperature black gloss over it but don’t know if it will stick to stainless. I believe Hammerite do a speciality metals etch primer but again don’t know what temperature it will take.
Baz, it was the Phoenix Paints website that made me ask the question! I had hoped to use the small amount of Phoenix 2-part etch primer, but a quick peek at their site . . .
