EDMES today fully opened the 5/7″ track as a full circle with the completion of the safety rails on the viaduct. So the regular 1st Sunday of the month public running at St Katherine’s Priory could take our passengers all around instead of just up and down.
(picture by Will) About 5 years of work mostly by gangs on Tuesdays and Thursdays has slowly been extending the track and then cam the big gap about 5ft above ground so extensive embankments could only go so far. So the multi-arch viaduct was begun, wide enough for not only the track but an army of passengers to be evacuated if a train broke down at the top. Or maybe double track one day. Running every month and at various events nearby including Powderham Castle raised the thousands needed for bricks and concrete.
That embankment behind is the BR line to south coast.
Last week was the 10th anniversary of the club formation and at the AGM the existing committee was unanimously re-elected.
We had some nibbles and a celebration birthday cake. Great to have the track fully open in time for this milestone.
This Sunday 22nd is the Spring Fayre at the community centre St Katherine’s Priory where we meet and have the track so we will be running for the local adults and any kids who bring them. The club will also have our workshop open to show what facilities are available so why not come along and see us. 11-3pm. Parking available.
Well done Chaps ! A mighty fine piece of work and so much better to be able to do a circuit rather than just up and back. May be I’ll put one of the locos in the car next time I’m down that way. Best wishes. Noel.
