I must have bought the last one of the above from Arc as all details have now been removed from their site. Unfortunately I forgot to note the carbide tip designations that fit to these. Does anyone know what they are please?

I “think” it is    APKT 1604 PDFR   for Aluminium, and good for cast & steel for we hobbiests.

        Someone else will hopefully confirm.

If Arc Euro can no longer sup[ply, JB Cutting Tools have taken a lot of the cutting tools from Syston

I’ve got one ordered too so good info as I didn’t note it down either! Just seemed too cheap to pass it by!

are these best used for finishing passes more like a fly cutter or removing mass material?

A lot will depend on the power and rigidity of the machine you are running them in.

If a benchtop hobby machine then best run fast and take shallower 1mm – 0.5mm cuts. Though they can also side cut.

Apologies for removing the said page from our website. As goods go out of stock, we try to update the site by showing less ‘out of stock’ items.

As Howard mentioned above, all ARCs remaining stock for Indexable tooling has been acquired by Jenny – JB Cutting Tools, for which I am very grateful to her. To the best of my knowledge, she has a good stock of SECO inserts for use in these products.

When we ran out of APMT and APKT inserts, for on-line sales we were directing potential buyers to APT, with links to pages:

                    for APMT, and APKT

Hope above information is of help.

As a side issue the pity of Arc closing is the website has lots of other snippets of info like dimensions and screwcutting charts that can be useful from time to time. Unlike books we have to remember the web is ephemeral.
I was lucky to get a certain item a few weeks ago that I didn’t see anywhere else on the web for amateurs – Arc will be missed.

ARC still come up on Web Archive if anyone wants to look back at older content like inserts

If not using a hobby mill then one can let rip. This is a 63mm diameter face mill and APMT inserts, from Arc, machining hot rolled steel:

                          Milling - Resized

Parameters were 420rpm, depth of cut 2.5mm (one turn of the handle), width of cut 48mm and feedrate of 430mm/min. The face mill has five inserts so that equate to a chip load of 0.2mm/tooth and a cutting speed of 83m/min. Removal rate is about 3.1 cubic inches per minute, comfortably below the capability of the mill. The mill is 1970s and designed for HSS cutters. Consequently it runs out of feedrate when using carbide insert face mills. I have been impressed by how well the inserts from Arc have performed.

I detailed the different approach to Julie Ann’s that seems to work well on the hobby size machines here and here

I used jenny Blackwell inserts when she had a web site. She appears to have moved to Ebay, but can’t find her Ebay site.. Can anyone help.

I have also used Ashdown Tooling and they seem to be good.
