We recently received this message. Please beware, the scammer in question had made no posts on the forum, which would have been a hint something was wrong. Also, if someone insists on payment via BACS or PayPal ‘friends and family’, but you have no confirmation they are genuine, show caution.
It can happen to anyone – I was once sold a lathe motor that turned out to be burnt out.

I am afraid I have been the victim of a scam via the ME Classified section.
I posted a Wanted ad for a 4 jaw chuck recently and got a reply within days.
All seemed genuine when I asked for more details and photographs – which were supplied. I have to say I thought this person was one of “our” people.
After several attempts to send money via Bacs, my courier could not pick up the parcel as the occupant was not at home,
My scammer then sent me a receipt for a Royal Mail collection service which I foolishly thought was genuine and repaid him another £11.
Needless to say all communication ceased and the chuck did not arrive. Total amount £111 – red faces all round.
Perhaps you could post a warning on the Forum alerting members of this possibility.
I like to think I am fairly savvy and very wary of Ebay, Facebook Market etc, but being scammed on a very specialised website (mostly populated by senior folk such as myself) is very hard to believe.
