hand rail stanchion

hi chaps. I need to fit a few hand rail stanchions to my locomotive. the boiler does not have any threaded points for this and I don't really wish to start to playing around with it. so it looks like fitting to the boiler wrap. whats the best way. I have been thinking of using some Loctite metal weld to hold the stanchions in place, along with a nut behind the wrap. any ideas. michael

Drill and tap the boiler cladding it should be thick enough for this.

Good evening Terry,

I always fit the boiler lagging sheet temporally and carefully set out and lightly scribe the line of the hand rail also marking off the positions of the stanchions, take off the lagging sheet, drill through and it's a simple job to fit the stanchions nutting them on the back, but firstly checking that the hand rail material will pass easily through the stanchions. All that's left is to fit the lagging sheet for final.
