I have bought some light fittings from Lights.co.uk web site which seems ok and in the UK but after I have ordered them I received an email confirming order and at the top is a note.

Please note – your order delivery will take longer than indicated in our shop because our carriers are not able to complete the shipment of your order at thus time.

There is currently a technical problem due to new custom checks and controls for goods coming into the UK from the EU. However, are hands are tied as we cannot speed up the delivery process and we are unable to confirm when your order will arrive.

We are terribly sorry for any inconvenience and we greatly appreciate your continued understanding at thus time.

I would have thought that the warnings should have been on the web site top front page.

I would have thought that came under being missold a product. Certainly not good practice.

I assume you can get a cancel refund.

          Steve.

SWMBO ordered them and as she likes them and we are not going anywhere at the moment she is willing to wait a while!

Yes, so much for "free trade" after Brexit. We have similar problems buying from UK suppliers for delivery here in France. Carriers are demanding exhorbitant fees for customs and VAT before they will deliver goods that I order.

David, on my browser there is an orange banner across the top of the shop page, and also across the top of the Basket page; you need to click on the banner itself, or the arrow at the RHS, rather than the text within the banner. (I'm using Opera on W10)
It looks like some other parts of their web site need updating, as they are still showing the UK as part of the EU.
I'm guessing there are a number of websites awaiting their developers to update the code accordingly.

Quite a few imports and exports are getting caught in the mangle at the moment. The VAT system has changed, there's a brand new border with the EU, and Covid is disrupting transport.

I don't think lights.co.uk are mis-selling, and they're not the only seller with this problem. The possibility of delivery problems from the EU is mentioned in their FAQ, and many other internet sellers warn this might be a problem. The issue has been in the news since January as well.

New customs processes and charges apply and they aren't fully worked out yet and Northern Ireland is different. Although some goods are moving freely many companies have suspended trade across the border until the details are nailed down. Other goods are being delayed somewhat while everyone involved discovers how the new system works. Importers and exporters are keen to avoid customers being shaken by unexpected customs and handling charges on the doorstep, particularly as these also attract VAT. When the system has bedded down things should return to normal, albeit slightly more expensive.

                  We live in interesting times!

My son tells me materials we got from the continent, that used to take 3 days are now taking at least 12. Our 15 year old fridge is on its last legs, on enquiring at the local dealer for a replacement, he was unable give a delivery date. What a mess!
