Hi, This will have been covered before but can't find where, so please excuse me asking again.

I wish to temporarily 'glue' the cylinder cover to the top of a wee steam cylinder of a steam feed pump I am making so I can finish machining the top cover and drill the bolt holes in both cover and cylinder. Then, when done, remove the cover again, presumably by heating it up a bit.

The question is, what adhesive to use? I have Araldite and Loctite 603 equivalent in my shed, would either of these do? If so, how hot to heat to disassemble? Or what else could I use?

Araldite comes off with heat but I've no idea of the temperature required.

Superglue, quick, clean, and cheap as chips, heat or acetone will release it, use it all the time for similar uses in clock and watch work!

About 270 C for Araldite and Loctite. I use a heat gun to get the parts to split. mainly threaded parts that have broken the seal.

I use superglue, you don't need to get to an accurate temperature just keep gently testing until it goes soft.

High-temperature retainer type loctite is not suitable for or this sort of job…

I have used superglue many times. A good tap will knock it off.
Don't get superglue hot. The fumes can be really nasty !
