Some years ago I bought this at a market but to date nobody has been able to tell me what it is. It looked well made and just as important it was very CHEAP so I bought it on the basis I would try and find out what it was later – the time has now come……………….
I showed it to Roy Arnold at the old tool shop in Suffolk and he said he didn't know what it was but he had one as well so it seems it was not a one off special.

The cranked arm at the front has a point like a screwdriver tip and the whole arm can be lifted against the tension of the spring in the body of the tool. The spring tension is adjustable with the knob on the back and the scale shows 0 to 200 somethings. There is also a locknut on the back to presumably keep the setting.
The cranked arm at the front can be located in any of four positions at 90 degrees to each other.
I have included a photo of what I assume is the maker's mark if that is any clue.
It would be good to know what this is for and I hope that someone might recognise it – of course, if anybody needs one, it is available at a very resonable rental!
Thanks in anticipation – Bob
