Just watched the first part of speed dreams 10pm BBC2 good to see PJ and other enthusiasts and all the work they do to fulfill their dreams.
Hurry up for part 2.
For speed people with home workshops it was so enjoyable watching their creations come to life.

Hmmm!

On the above recommendations I sat through this. Unfortunately, I blinked a couple of times and missed the ACTUAL engineering content as distinct from the repetitive, endless blah about the lure of the salt flats. Whatever floats your boat, so to speak but my eyes and head find the modern editing of micro-second shots (the longest shot was Dave's Mum and Dad's interview!!!) almost unwatchable. Is modern attention span really that short? As for the Swiss gnome (the typical example of what Vince Cable so correctly called 'socially useless&#39 – I would hesitate to characterise him on a public forum!

Definitely 'horses for courses' and for 'them as does', enjoy it. For myself, I have found some slow-drying paint which needs close attention.

I do agree with all that Cornish Jack says, particularly about the micro-second shots that are used a lot these days, as though the programme makers are unsure of themselves.

Cliches, cliches all the way. I paused on the fleeting workshop shots and enjoyed them but the programme wasn't really made for the likes of me.

Prog Two will be mainly close-ups into the faces of men and wives/partners who can't speak due to emotion, the more tears and embarrasment the better, of course. There will be angels singing.

I thought that the program was interesting and entertaining, which I guess is what the makers were hoping for at the time slot it was shown. It's format got across a lot in an hour, and what did come across was their passion and effort to get to the salt flats and beat the time. I'm interested to see if the team funded by the investment banker is as satisfied as the guy who picks up dog crap off the beach and begs his bits from the scrapie! It is after all a human story, not a bike build documentary. There are loads of videos on YouTube if you want to watch people making swarf and chips, and I've watched a few and learnt some useful skills. They all had various reasons for needing to do this, and were inspired by various reasons. I'm not sure an hours documentary on turning a crankshaft or making a cylinder head was one of them. It seems for many that the engineering interest and skills developed after catching salt fever. I'm looking forward to the next episode. Well done BBC!

I watched speed dreams on iplayer last night what a superb program, probally one of the best for a long time cant wait for part 2.

Like Paul I spend many hours creating swarf in pursuit of the extra few mph, at the moment with model tether cars but in the past with flash steam hydros, the program really struck a chord.
