        Hi all,

are there any views on my using stainless steel bolts to secure fittings on a cast iron fire door? This is a multi-fuel stove rather than a model but the principles involved are identical.

The bolt heads are inside the fire box and subject to quite a bit of heat. Previously the screws had been steel cross point set screws but they were very hard to remove and so I decided that S/S hex head screws might be an easier maintenance feature.

The screws are only M5 so quite small and they only retain the fire glass clamps so don't have to be super tight.

        Many thanks, T

I replaced the catch shaft on my Dunsley Highlander (multi fuel stove) with a "stainless steel" bolt. Its been in a couple of years but apart from some rust its worked well. I believe the grade of SS is 329 (internal liner of flue liners) that is reccomended for fire use. So it depends on your grade of stainless, but |I guess any would be better then mild steel.
