Like many here I use a parting tool holder and separate blades such as the 5" long blades sold by RDG and other suppliers.

I want to make my own tool holder. Can anyone tell me the blade side angles please. The blades are slightly wider at the top, and narrow to the bottom.

      Many thanks.

Not sure all blades have the same taper –

Measure the thick and thin parts at the edge, measure the length ( or width if you will) of the taper section, and a bit of Trig will do it – or Google for trig calculators if your trig functions are defunct..

If the width of the top is T, the width of the bottom is B, and the height is H, then each side angle is …

            Arctan( (T-B)/2*H)

            eg. If T = 2mm. B = 1.5mm, and H = 12mm, then each side angle is the angle whose tangent is…

            (2-1.5)/2*12 = 0.5/24 = 0.0021

The angle that has this tangent is Arctan(0.0021) = 1.2 degrees.

IIRC, the GHT rear toolpost design did not angle the side of the slot. He instead put a couple of small, (6BA?), skt. hd. grub-screws fairly low down to act as adjustable stops. Could be worth copying.

The other feature was angling the top and bottom edges of the holder slot to match the typical "Eclipse" parting -off blade. This was probably around 4 to 5 deg.
