When I up graded to a Big Bore super seven with gearbox from my faithful old ML7R (no gearbox) the thing I really missed was my saddle stop. Made to David Clark's MEW design it bolted to the front of the headstock utilising the tapped gearbox mounting holes.
That location no longer being available to me, I eventually came up with this alternative idea. I made a crude mock up with a block of wood and a dowel to see if it was a goer . Having lived with it for a while now I can say that I am very pleased with it, the locking wheel only needs a light nip to lock the stop and it is positive and does not slip.
It would of course have to be removed should the taper turning attachment be required, but this is a very infrequent requirement for me.
