        Hi all,

Can anybody tell me where the best place to find / purchase some drawings for a 7 1/4 box van that I can adapt to become a driving trolley.

I have looked on Amazon, ebay and several model engineering book shops but can't find anything.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

There was a feature in ME on building a 'Toad' that doubled as a driving car. You could replace the bodywork by copying an OO model.

            Hi Ed,

If you want to go down the GWR Toad route I have all the Swindon drawings plus my late Uncle Roy Penny got a Gold medal for his own example at one of the ME exhibitions in 1990/1991.

The late Ron Gage of the Chichester club used a Toad as a driving trolley behind his 14XX GWR 'Dart'. My Uncle Roy did not use his for this purpose. I suggest sitting on a Toad for any length of time would become rather uncomfortable.

Most clubs have a standard design they use. If you are not a member of a club I suggest you join one!

            Cheers,

            Julian

If you do opt for a Toad as a driving trolley at least omit the chimney or make it removable. You really wouldn't want that going where the sun doesn't shine.

Box van or brake van?.. BR, GWR etc etc scale drawings or outline shape?. Long wheelbase or short wheel base?

Assuming(?) you mean covered van as opposed to open van and decide on a specific vehicle/company there are societies for GWR LNWR MR SR some of whom hold works drawings. Other specific interest magazines such as the Great Western Railway journal have a content with multiple photos often with dimensioned drawings. Old model railway mags often a source of info. A chap called Ken Wherret (?) produced a booklet of O gauge drawings of various railway companies, which are stated to be dimensioned from the prototype, these can be blown up to a larger size for private use.
