Wiggler

Hi

I'm new here and a complete novice.I've just purchased a Wiggler set but to my shame can't find out how the probes are inserted in the chuck.What happens is that they just fall out and for the life of me I can't understand how the chuck is supposed to keep the ball end in.Please help.

It is simple. Just grip the parallel shaft of the wiggler in the machine chuck, slacken the knurled ring of the wiggle chuck a bit, insert the ball end of the particular probe into the wiggler chuck and tighten it by hand. You need to experiment to see how tight to make it so that the probe can be centred easily and then stay put with sufficient rigidity to do the job.

Thanks for replying.I did as you say but when I push the probe into the chuck it just doesn't stay put and I can't see how it could. I would have thought that the hole in the chuck would have to be smaller than the ball end of the probe in order to be able to grip it but no it's slightly larger.So as I tighten the chuck the ball end rests on the parallel shank inside and goes through the chuck with nothing to grip .I must be doing something wrong but can't figure out why.At first I thought the wiggler had been badly made so I got a more expensive one from RDG but it's exactly the same.Could they both be deffective?

Push the ball in a bit harder, there is a recess in the chuck jaws which the ball will "snap" into and then tightening the nut adjusts the friction.

The ball does not "rest on teh shank" it snaps inside like this one with the nut removed

Hi Nuno,

Definitely not a silly question – I have seen a wiggler design that works just as you assembled yours, but with a smaller holes in the closing nut.

Thanks all,the replies have been very encouraging and since I intend to embark on some(not very ambicious )projects in the future I know where to come for friendly advice.Re the wiggler I was really baffled and thought it could be a badly made chinese import but it turns out they can be designed the way I thought they were.I'm smarter than I thought though not smart enough ti think laterally.
