After 3 years of neglect and spring on its way it was time for some TLC to my small Bonsia collection sadly I lost my major Olive to much water and bugs. Some new shoots off the old main root saved so hopefully in 30 yrs it'll look as good as it once was. My 35 yr old Fig still doing well and its off springs.

I've never had one last more than a few years Bit late to start now!

Great weather for our club BBQ at the track. No wind so smoke did hang around a bit also can make driving a bit more of a problem when it comes straight back in your face. We had BBQs going all round our leafy glade whch meant it was hard to escape the fumes. Even had te chance to buy some metal as one member was selling some of his excess stock.

Finally got around to a few nice little jobs:

Silver soldered the top and feet onto the A-frame cut out by Model Engineers' Laser for my 'ancient engine'.

'Bricked' the second side of the supporting wall that goes with the frame (using brick slips).

Realised that instead of hunting for a bigger bit of 3mm ali to reposition my mount's stepper motor, I could use alutite to weld another bit of scrap onto it – worked well!

My wife picked up a cheap webcam for me at a boot sale (I said anyone would do – for experimentation). Turns out to be quite respectable and I got a Vista driver from the chip manufacturer that works with W 8.1 It came in a large generic 'High Resolution Webcam' box (6x8x2&quot with a 'silk' lining – pretty posh for £1! The stand is so well designed I'm not sure I want to butcher it…

I've heard that stuff is really good, but a bit neat – I'm using 'weathered tudor' slips that give a fairly ratty wall – plus sticking them on is very theraputic

I understand that David K Hulse actually makes his scale bricks individually, in the traditional brick making manner!

Anyone who has seen his models will understand the magnitude of that task.

Broke a 1/8" BSW tap in a bit of aluminium, so into a jar with an Alum solution couple of days ago, this morning not much had happened. Thinking…. electrolytic mmm, put a bit of brass in the mix, now it's working quite well. This method works best if it can be kept warm, a few months back I bought a little heater plate(meant for keeping your coffee warm), I'v got the jar of Alum solution on this.

Just walked into the hall. Labrador lying on the floor wagging its tail suspiciously, next to the cat. Investigated further and they are sharing pieces of a dead mouse – they each have little piles of internal organs

By the time I got back with some tissue all that was left was a tail, a hind leg and some unpleasant marks.

Must admit, I know the dog and cat get on, but it was clear the cat was quite happy for the dog to be sharing its trophy.

Better worm them both ASAP as wild animals nearly always have round worm.

They get wormed regularly. The cat barely touches its food in the summer months (although she makes enough fuss if it doesn't get it on time) because of her 'supplements'.

Some of the hoppy (fleas) treatments also cover worms or at least the ones we use do and our cats (3) and dog have never suffered with worms although hoppies have been a little problematical this year. Cats deliver mice, odd bird and occasional rat as presents normally headless.

I started to rearrange the workshop today. Not been out there for 6 months due to illness. I had to make room for a scroll saw. I am going to try some simple pattern making. I won't be doing my own casting though.

Well I reasearched and made a piano wire bender. My previous attempts with tube , vice and hammer have worked of sorts. however the latest offering on the back of the kestrel autogyro snapped after a heavy landing.

Major surgery to get the blighter off so I decided I had to do the job right this time. i couldn't be bothered waiting for the delivery of a bought one and as they are not that complicated I got into the scrap bin and found the bits.

I addapted a design that i found on the modelflying site. I used silver steel, interferance fit, to reamed holes instead of turned down bolts.

Ohh what a difference bent easily, no bashed or skinned fingers and accurately controllable angles.

It is now back on the gyro and the glue is setting.

                                        Next ?????

Glad you are better David. I hope you get on better with your scroll saw than I did with mine ! I bought it to cross out the wheels on a clock I was making but it all seemed far to violent and, in the end,I did the job quickly and easily with a piercing saw.

Hi Norman Clocks are what I got the scroll saw for as well as pattern making. I got an RS one which is a rebadged Delta. Got it for £45 which was a bargain. Wife had to carry it into shed as I am to weak to lift it. It has two speeds so does not go mad when I switch it on the low range.

Not me but , rather, SWMBO who went out in the gloaming after supper to be confronted by a flying object coming straight at her. She thought it was a bat and retreated indoors. Called me and we went out to look and found the said 'bat' sitting on the cross piece of the soil pipe. Not a 'twitcher' or ornithologist but reckon this is a buzzard – according to this morning's Today on the Beeb now prevalent in all counties. Anyone confirm??

We get a lot of buzzards down here in the South West – they tend to sit on telegraph poles!

This does look like a buzzard but rather smaller than those locally – so maybe a youngster?

The other thing is that they are "shy?" If I see one on a pole and slow to get a better look it will instantly fly off. They would not come close to a house as in your image
