What are these tools.

I have tried to upload photographs but to no avail.I am afraid the technology is beyond me.

I have two tools that I cannot identify. Each tool has the same appearance but different dimensions.;

The shape is like a Xmas tree in a tub, (one is 60mm high the other 80mm.)

The tub on the second one is 30mm x 10mm. There is a 3mm hole in the centre. The base of the triangle of the "tree" is 40mm. The top of the triangle of the tree(60mm) terminates in an upright section of 2mm x 10mm.

The metal appears to be stainless steel and its thickness tapers from the "tub" end to the top (2.8mm to 1.2mm)

Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou

Christmas tree label templates – cut around them?

I'm only guessing, as I've never run into exactly this sort of template in industry, but here goes –

1. maybe templates for sign makers to cut out direction arrows on cardboard stencils?

2. maybe saw-angle-setting templates for a table saw, to set the saw fence for cutting wooden pickets of yard fences. If 4 cuts were made at same angle on the ends per template, a nice pyramid top for the pickets could be formed.

3. maybe templates for wooden wheel makers for spoke ends (or furniture makers, for chair legs)

4. maybe a template for patternmakers in a foundry for a commonly used pattern element like alignment pins or bars.

note: the holes look like they are for hanging on a nail, at least that is usually what the hole is for on templates.

note: pretty posh templates if made in stainless – most I have seen are wood, galvanized steel. or cardboard.

Who else wants a guess (or knows)?

They look more like scrap from stampings where the inverse was the required part. The thin spike on the top of the tree is typical as the clearance provided between the two parts being stamped out.

The metal itself is tapered,if it were scrap from stampings,what product would use tapered metal ? The metal at the "tub" end is thicker than the "Christmas tree fairy support" end. Could they be some sort of wedge ?

I wonder how you make a taper like that. Having done so it has to be rather important that the subsequent cutting is both the right way round, square, and the pattern is the right depth into the material. Also the taper may make the material move as one side is cut first. So pins would stop the operator putting it in wrong and hold it in place.

Being stainless it is perhaps something for food machinery, or for fancy trim, or gong to be hot.

Any machining marks?

Filling knife/scraper blades are tapered so that the blade gets thinner as it gets wider. Perhaps they are the scrap from stamping blanks for that sort of blade?
