      Hi,

I bought one of these vices (see http://www.warco.co.uk/vices–vice-jaws/117-milling-vice—dh6.html ), and used it a couple of times before something bad happened.

At the end of the threaded rod, there is a keyway where the handle connects to turn it. The key appears to have ripped its way right through the rod metal! Has anyone ever seen anything similar? I can't believe I over-tightened, I didn't use a cheater bar or anything on it apart from the regular handle. Am I right to think this is just not a very well made vice? I know the price was low, but still… it doesn't seem fit for purpose.

      Thanks

      Luke

I suggest you contact Warco direct before doing anything else, if it's still under warranty they will most likely just swap it out for a replacement.

I agree with Coalburner – your first port of call is Warco. Explain the problem clearly ( and politely!)  – I've always found them very obliging.

            Cheers

Luke, opinion that you are seeking is not relevant. If you bought this new from Warco, or a Warco supplier, then go straight back to them and seek a replacement or refund.

Thanks guys, I'll take a photo when I get home tonight and email it to them so they can see what happened, and will ask for a replacement.

Always send faulty goods back to the supplier.

I am sure that Warco will be very obliging and will replace the vice immediately with an apology.

Like other suppliers of Far Eastern equipment their quality control system appears to be to supply items exactly as they receive them from the manufacturer and then react quickly to satisfy customers who complain. This way everyone believes the supplier to be very good. What they should really do is to exercise proper quality control over the supplier to prevent faulty items leaving the factory in the first place.

Though we all too often are ,the customer should not be doing the job of the quality/goods out inspecton department.

If defective / mis "labled" product is not brought to the suppliers attention then they cannot rectify and avoid that supplier ( to them ), or even know to check before dispatch…

We are also part of the problem/solution.

I just want to say that Kaye and Dolly from Warco sorted this out quickly and without fuss. The only reason it took so long is that I took ages to actually send it back.

With this in mind, I would happily recommend buying from Warco, because if there are problems, they will rectify them.
