So I went and purchased the sieg super c3 from Arc and what a great lathe! Have worked on large lathes in industry work and wasnt expecting such quality for the price. Ian was a great help in ordering the lathe and after the initial strip down and clean up the lathe is great!
Completed stripped it down and fitted the metal gears, brass gibs and stoned down the running surfaces for the slides and they are running very smooth!
Ive turned using the one hss tool I had bought home from work that fit the small tool post and have now ordered some indexable tip tools from Glanze and just awaiting their delivery! In the meantime Im looking to strip down the motor/ spindle and fit the taper roller bearings as I can see everybody boasts at what an improvement this provides!
My questions are…
1) I have no experience on bearings, and nowhere specifically states how many are to be fitted so do I need to buy 2 of the taper roller bearings or 1? (Probably a stupid question I know)
2) does anybody have any experience of fitting these and do you need any specific tools? I have access to a 2nd lathe at work and also a press so is this all I will need?
3) How do I "preload" a bearing?
Thankyou to those who can actually be bothered to read this far
and an even bigger thankyou to those who are able to answer!
