ransome thrasher speed

i have built a 2inch ransome thrasher with plans from blackgates what speed should the thrasher run that is the drum drive also what 12 volt electric motor would i need to run it ok the traction engine is not finished yet and i need to show off the thrasher

A quick look on google gave me @700 rpm ( full size drum )

To ensure that the corn is threshed properly, the reel speed needs to be fairly closely controlled. Hence a governor on the engine driving it. The exact speed would be determined by the diameter of the reel on a particular make and model of machine.

On mechanically governed internal combustion engined combine harvesters, the engine speed was held to 5% or less from Full Load to No Load.

Obviously in a model such precision is not needed, but some nod towards it needs to be visible,

Run it at a speed that looks right.

Generally models run at full size speeds look frantic rather than scale.

Slow enough to see what the wheels are doing is more interesting anyway for simple showing off. Bit different if you have something of suitable size for it to actually thrash but it would still be tweak until it works.

Full size drum rotates between 1000 and 1100 rpm, with a beater bar speed of between 60 / 70 mph!

Too fast for a model.
