I stumbled on this site:

The site owner has placed a set of Work magazines that are downloadable on the site. I am going to try and read them all,

Volume 2 has got some very intesting stuff that we engineers would like, including how to make a chuck, how to choose a lathe etc.

The wording is a bit tedious, but the information is good.
