I am based in Barnstaple North Devon and am looking for an Engineer or Company locally that will carry out some work on a ML4 lathe bed.

I need the L/H lead screw support enlarged to accept an ML7 leadscrew and the lead screw cut to length and a flat milled on the gear end.

By locally Barnstaple, Torrington, Bideford, etc I did find a chap in Torrington but he has just retired!

          Hello Ken,

I'm resident in Thirsk North Yorkshire and would happily help you is this, it will mean posting parts for example, but I am sure there will be someone nearer to hand who is suitably equipped and equally prepared to help you.

The chances of finding a small engineering concern who would take it on at a price you can afford are I fear vanishingly small, those days are long behind us.

So, if you are stuck please get in touch with a PM

          Regards

          Brian

I live in an area with a dearth of engineering firms. My only local company has been happy to do a couple of jobs at reasonable prices. As Brian suggests, go knocking on a few doors, you might be lucky.

Irrespective of time he wouldn't have the skill, and nor would the opposition.

Thanks for all the suggestions and replies.

I am sure the PM would make time for the PR picture then kick it into the long grass.

                      Thanks again for the replies

I'm sure I saw the PM driving a train on the news the other night – I got the impression he was planning his next career move.

                          Back to the question.

I seem to recall that a list of people able to provide this service was going to be published on here in Januarym but cannot find the post.

A list would be good as I am looking to commission the engine unit for the Caradoc steam tractor if anybody can help.

                          Thanks.

                          Stuart

Edited — I have jst been messaged to say that John Haining used the engine from his Suffolk Dredging Engine in Caradoc. Thank you.
