Horizontal spindle slop?

I have a wee bit play on the spindle, it moves back and forth by about 2mm. I assume this is not supposed to happen?

Thrust bearing type issue, 2mm is a lot.

Spindle end thrust adjustment is made by the threaded collar at the end of the spindle, just inboard of the gearwheel at the left hand end.

This is locked by a socket set screw (grub screw).  Loosen this and tighten the collar to take up the play. There is a copper pad under the set screw to protect the spindle threads, so it may be tight.

If this doesn't do the trick then it's probably the thrust bearing at fault.

The end float is adjusted by the screwed collar on the left end of the spindle, it may be worth a little investigation as 2mm is quite a lot to suddenly appear, it may simply be the locking screw for the collar has come loose and allowed the collar to move.
