I though some of you gents and ladies might find this interesting. I came across it on Ebay around 20 years ago and couldn’t help buying it. After a lot of digging around I eventually discovered that it had been made from a set of plans and six instructional articles in Model Engineering Magazine in the early 60s. I contacted the magazine and was staggered to be able to buy original copies of the six magazines that contained the articles.
The engine is called the Harmonique and consists basically of two pairs of cylinders at right angles to each other with each pair connected and driving the crankshaft via a scotch yoke. Its one of those sort of engines that you can’t help but run very slowly on compressed air occasionally just to enjoy watching it turn over.
I wasn’t keen on the base but didn’t want to disturb anything by remounting it, so left everything exactly as the original builder made it. From what I can see it has been made exactly according to the drawings.
