They are good videos! Solid information from people who really know.

Damascus is absolutely right, but common use of the term now includes any patterned steel including pattern-welded, wootz, and powder. The vids are about wootz: crucible steel specifically. Excellent.

FYI I don't think there is a better book to start learning about metallurgy than Verhoeven's: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/268324669_Steel_Metallurgy_for_the_Non-Metallurgist I might even suggest there isn't a better book.

Unfortunately it's now beyond a year since broadcast and been removed, unless you can find it elsewhere

The advent of Forged in Fire and the like have brought the often used but little understood term Damascus Steel to the fore ! A friend of mine who should know better, will insist that a japanese sword I have is Damascus Steel, because it is patterned ! It was takenoff a japanese officer during the war, All I know is it's rather sharp ! Noel.

I think that is a really good question Andrew and I couldn't have put it better myself.
