Has anyone got a Centec 2A cast baseplate they don’t want? The PO of my machine discarded the one for mine! I could also use an X-axis leadscrew – mine seems to have been bumped and it’s slightly banana shaped.

It’s also the same as the 2.

The 2A has had 2 different lead screws the early ones with the motor mount on the side which yours will/should have are 1/2″ later ones can be 5/8″.

If your 2A does not have the side mounts what’s missing is the pressed steel stand.

The base does nothing other than supply a bench mount, you can fabricate from 6 or 10mm plate

I plan to bolt the mill to my ¼” steel bench top but the proper baseplate would be nice to have.

The motor drive on mine was a 3rd party one which I have discarded since for the work I will be doing manual feed is best. The leadscrew is ½”. I do have the 3-axis DRO to help 🙂

As a stop-gap measure, find out from someone the thickness and plan dimensions of the part you seek.

Make four cylindrical spacers and set the machine on them with a large baking tray in place of the proper part.

Then when the part does appear, it is a quick operation to swap (all the securing bolts will be the correct length).

Keep an eye on eBay for someone breaking a machine or a complete one for a bargain price.

An advert on http://www.homeworkshop.org.uk might also produce a result.

There is a Centec group at groups.io but it seems very quiet.

I might be tempted to make one from wood, with four steel inserts where the machine attaches. If filled and painted, it would pass a ten foot inspection.

Yeah, the Centec group died when Yahoo kicked all the groups off. Loads of good photos info and drawings were lost.

              Richard,

The side mounts I am referring to are the ones cast into the side of the main column for the spindle drive for bench mounted machines. One version of the pressed steel stand of the underdrive model takes up a lot of space in a shed and also drums loudly with a single phase motor.

The motor I have is ¾hp single-phase. The motor pulley for the drive belt is only 60mm (2 3/8”) outer diameter which looks a bit small. The motor is rated at 1425rpm – does this pulley size seem okay?

                  Mines 2 1/4″.

It’s not keen running top speed when cold

                    Okay, thanks!
