Any member have a full size monotube (flash steam) Motorcycle as I'm having difficulty finding an Insurance Company to give me Public Liability.

This is not for use on Public roads but at shows and private places but Public are there spectating.

Have been in touch with the steam car club, steam boat club, Walker Midgely and other insurance companies.

The Steam car club has given me some good advice and awaiting another reply from them.

Any suggestions from any owners of similar type of full size flash steam vehicles of who to contact for insurance.

Pressure vessel test on a flash steamer is according to various contacts not required but to safeguard myself from a Law Suit is advisable.

Windy, I reckon that steam motor bikes should be like other motor vehicles, it will be alright as long as you have a bloke with a white flag walking ahead of you. Seriously though, why should there be a problem, I remember a chap had his steam bike featured in "Old Glory" maybe twenty years back.

There are problems as I have found I have had a reply from a well known steam vehicle insurance company and they have no schemes to suit my application.

Some people are economical with the truth regarding Insurance and licenses but if a serious accident happens all hell is let loose for organisers and rider.

Because you are on private land is no protection from the law as that jet car crash Hammond had at Elvington did not stop authorities checking every thing was legal.

A fairly common illegal non declaration is your medical condition in regards to driving licenses when you are 70.

As a person who has a compulsory eye defect test every three years and passed there are people who should not be driving due to medical conditions as the news has shown occasional.

I'm off to see an insurance broker this morning but think what I require is too specialised.

Here is a a quote from a member of the steam car club.

1. From the builder of a monotube and triple compound unit installed in a Land Rover –

"I'd rather entertain a boiler inspector on my side than a lawyer against.

There are so few monotubes about that there isn't a law, but that doesn't stop there being a 'law suit'.

It's taken a long time for me to work this out.

I would recommend – if you are taking a steam plant to a public show, be fully covered, especially these days as the public are ready with phone cameras which have good microphones etc."
