                    Hi cris,

                    In IE, try

Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Browsing/Automatically recover from page layout errors with compatibility mode Ouch!

You can also add model-engineer.co.uk to the list under

                    Tools/ompatibility view settings/

Or for a test, set compatibility mode from Tools/ompatibility View:

                    Hope that helps.

Thanks but if I can I'd rather not run a microsoft product on my mac if I can avoid it.

I find they are so intrusive. I wonder if the next update to this software version might fix the problem as it's very annoying. I am trying to find some clues on the interweb.

I may go into the applestore tomorrow to see if I can get some help

I'm guessing that Ben Rayment is something to with the Website? If that is the case the lack of communication does not come as a surprise to me.

There is some form of one-way absorbent bog in the MHS management that prevents any information passing through (allegedly).

As a matter of interest I just took Ians answer on Compat mode on board and had a look on IE.

I was surprised to find I'd already done that – there it was listed -'Model Engineer'. Can't remember doing it but must have done when this topic surfaced previously. Obviously though hasn't made 'app'orth of diffrence' on this computer.

                                regards – Ramon

PS I too like your background Chris – it certainly does make the text stand out.

Back in August, I posted this link to what [in my innocence] I believe may be the explanation of this persistent problem. … it was given to me by someone with far more ability in the subject, but no particular interest in banging his own head against the wall.

I had hoped that someone [maybe even this forum's software designer] might follow it up; and either say "Nope" or "Eureka!". … predictably, there was absolutely no response.

Perhaps one of our newer members would have the expertise to comment.

                                      Hi Chris,

I wasn't criticising your yellow background I was just responding to your 'GRRR' and trying to make suggestions as I have not had the overlapping ads problem since the link problem was sorted and I don't have the editing problen you seem to have as I often have to edit my text without problem.

The comments about readability of the text on yellow background is interesting as that is how we used to make text more readable for students with dyslexia, i.e. use yellow or blue paper to print on. It worked well.(I have just had to edit several spelling mistakes with no problem)

                                      Best regards

                                        Chris,

For obvious reasons, I am reluctant to insert snippets of HTML here; but I hope this will be safe … I have added some quotation marks, which should invalidate the HTML punctuation.

Although I cannot explain how it got there; the mechanism for displaying your yellow background is easy to find.

If you look through the HTML for the page, you will find a "div style" instruction which says "="background-color: rgb(255, 255, 191); "

255, 255, 191 is the yelllow colour that you are "using" … and this instruction appears to be exclusive to threads that contain your posts.

                                        MichaelG.

                                        .

                                        Note:

in Safari, there is a "View Source" menu item

                                        in IE, press "F12"

in Firefox there is, I believe, something rather clever.

I must be sending out the wrong impressions, sorry guys. Let me state I am so pleased anybody is taking any notice of me and my problems. So thanks for any comment, even the tounge in cheek ones smiley

What is strange is that I was having a conversation Thursday with another member and we were discussing delelopments in science and the coloured lenses helping people with Dyslexia came up. I never thought about my yellow text at the time but now you bring it up it makes some sense.

We used to provide yellow and blue gels for students with dylexia to place over printed matter which simulated coloured backgrounds for the text. It worked well for many with that problem.

                                              Note:

in Safari, there is a "View Source" menu item

                                              in IE, press "F12"

in Firefox there is, I believe, something rather clever.

That is interesting, over my head a bit but interesting.

What I don't really understand is why it's only ths site.

                                              Why did it suddenly start.

I guess a workaround is for me to only ever quote another post (like this one)

                                                Hi Chris,

We used to provide yellow and blue gels for students with dylexia to place over printed matter which simulated coloured backgrounds for the text. It worked well for many with that problem.

                                                Regards

                                                Terry

Yes the documentary I saw some years ago was with glasses that they gave some kids with one yellow and one blue tint. Very ingenious I thought.

                                                    Just a quick question.
When I am typing in this box at the bottom left is body – div and sometimes span or even strong.
Who knows what they mean ?

I must admit I'm relieved to know the yellow box is accidental. I was worried that Chris was the sort of person who writes to their MP in green pen…

I think they are HTML format commands: strong=bold, span = justify (I think).
