Just reading through some old issues [always an interesting pastime ] and came across ads for Emco lathes on offer for a mere£11500 [Feb 2006 ].

Nice machines, but a bit pricey for most of us metalbashers, I would have thought.

I dont recall seeing any reviews about them either, so did they ever sell or were they simply in the wrong market ?  I hate to think what they might be costing now.

      Any ideas ??

Still available I believe, from the same importers that sell Wabeco kit.

I used an Emcomat 8.6 for many years, bought S/H as an ex demo off the then importers and that cost me over £1000 back in the early 90s. Nice quality Austrian machine with geared head but became too small for my needs.

My workshop was and still is Emco based. Up until 3 years ago when I downsized I had an Emco Maximat Super 11 and FB2 Milling machine. The lathe cost £2500.00 in 1986 and I think I paid £1800.00 for my second FB2 in 1993, this was second hand, ex-demo.

Emco machines are somewhat dearer today, and the model range has changed slightly. If anything the quality has got even better, although the FB2 was dropped some while ago. I think my last FB2 was one of the last Austrian machines to be made.

            Regards,

            Gray,

Interesting to see the current range … I think their niche is rather above what most  of us could consider:(

That would be my feeling too Michael.  Nice machines but ???

They must be in the same range as TOS , beautiful machines, but the cost !!!!!!

I think Joe Noci (not seen for a while) has one of the Emcomat D14 lathes as well as quite a few other Emco machines.

Their quick change center drill is a nice idea that could be replicated
