I need to make 6 backplate studs for a couple of my chucks. Now somewhere I had a list of suitable material for making various bits and piece, but I seem to have lost it (Old age can’t remember where it is LOL)

Can someone point me in the direction of a list or let me know which steel would be best.

      Many thanks in advance

Personally I would check my pile of bolts to see if I had any that could be re-purposed. I seem to have accumulated lots that I am never likely to use for their original purpose.

Thank you guys, I have not got many bolts but plenty of wood screws, not much use as bolts. I will have a rummage through my cupboards as I have just ordered some metal.

That’s what I’d do, I’ve got lots of old nuts and bolts in plastic containers under the bench.

Mine are just lengths of basic, cheap studding secured with a touch of Loctite

Found some cap head bolts of the correct thread, just need to shorten the thread, cut to length and thread other end.
