        I have nearly completed the construction of the 5 inch gauge Princess of Wales to the LBSC design

        The drawings show no method or indeed neccessity for the steam brake cylinder to be attached to any sort of anchor it seems to float about secured only by the steam brake feed pipe

        Other loco drawings say Speedy show the cylinder bolted to a frame stretcher although there the cylinder is in a vertical position whereas mine is horizontal

        In short does the brake cylinder need to be secured to the frames somehow?

          it wont be working as a brake cylider for long unless it has an anchor point

            Hi Simon I think you will find the Princess of Wales was deseigned by Martin Evans but it is a lovely loco. As others have said the steam cylinder should be anchored to obtain purchase on the brake gear.

              The steam brake cylinder is supported by the brake gear linkages and is not fastened at all to the frames. This photo from Station Road Steam may help:
