Hello all, I picked up this booklet from 1940 of the castings needed for a Stuart No 10, the dimension needed is part A , marked with two arrows. Also I would like to add the reversing gear has anyone got those please. Interesting the set of castings cost 8/6, the finished engine was £2-10, around 200% inflation to today's prices. I know the rough size but I want to get it correct

It's not critical just leave as cast. Aim to get the top flange 1/8" think provided that does not make the feet too thin and just leave the trunk guide end cast.

But if you are fabricating the 1 5/8" would be about right.

If I read it correctly the only dimension you should concern yourself with is the over all height from the bottom of the feet to the top of the cylinder flange – 211/16. As it is a casting the bottom face between the legs can be dresseed & left as is. IIRC on my S10 I only dressed the bottom to remove the rough casting. Others may have differing comments.

Is that the booklet with detailed instructions? It was written for a hobby lathe but I was using one at work so when it came to 'bolt standard to faceplate to machine feet' said faceplate was so big the casting disappeared right down the hole.

somewhere in the library I have a copy of a booklet on building that engine bought in the early 90s, possibibly a reprint of the one you have.I will try and find it. It will have come from either Tee publishing or Camden model steam services. Noel
