Hi, Not really sure how appropriate or related to "model" engineering this is, more likely a piece of social history if anything.

So i was perusing for more doodads at a local curiosity shop, when i found this at the back of the store for a fiver. The miniature machines appeal to me personally, regardless of what others may think of sewing.
It's marked "vulcan" made in england, and is probably what a little girl might have got for a Christmas present in the 1950/60's. Its a miniature sewing machine, it's mostly tin plate indicating it was at least designed with mass production in mind, with the exception of a little ivorine turn handle. It's supposed to be electric but having tried some D cell batteries in it, it wont turn on. Presumably either the motor has long deceased or the contacts have been dulled through the years. Either way i'm probably going to hook it up to a DC power supply so i can atleast rule out the latter.
Any tips for restoring one of these?
