      Afternoon,

I am looking for some solid rubber oil seals.

We have a rotating shaft that is hollow and filled with oil, there is a sleeve around the shaft with pipes connected that lets the oil flow into the shaft but stays stationary.

Inside are solid rubber oil seals that prevent the oil leaking between the rotating shafts and the stationary couplings.

I've spent most of the morning trying to find them, spoken to over 20 seal suppliers and haven't got anywhere.

The seals I took out are pretty damaged, I've found the following information in machine logs, but not what they are actually called!

      Seal size I/D 68mm to 70mm ascending O/D 88mm to 92mm ascending

Can anyone advise me about these please.

Could you make a drawing and post a picture of it?

Don’t wether you have tried Trelleborg, I used to use their seals in designs for rotary hydraulic distributors.

Speaking with the seal suppliers without knowing the exact name of the seal can be frustrating. If you can take one of the old seals to a hydraulic specialty shop, just looking at it will likely to get the exact name and they may have them in stock.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I have managed to find a previous invoice and have now ordered some more.

It is like a square section o-ring with the internal and external faces being tapered.

                  Similar to this:

A bog standard seal used in pistons & hydraulic cylinders. I wonder why 20 suppliers did no know what it was ???regards

                      No idea.

They were just quoting for standard oil seals, it took a lot of explaining for them to understand what they were. Then they couldn't help.

Only quote I had was £700 for 8 of them to be made.

                      Sorted now though thanks.

Great luck to have kept the invoice, perhaps you should order a spare set while you can.
