The SX 2 mill ( and the SC3 lathe for that matter..) have a multi phase brushless motor with position feedback to the control board.
Fault finding on these machines is slightly more difficult than the DC motored predecessors and the 'light bulb test' is inappropriate…
The control board uses an Atmel microprocessor to derive the multipole signals feeding three sets of power driver devices energising the motor windings. Position feedback to the micrcontroller closes the loop.
It would unwise to dismantle the motor……
