Hi Guy's

As this forum often touch's on IT subjects and seem to get good response I thought I would ask what none windows (Microsoft) email clients would members recommend ?

I'd be interested as well but steer well clear of Thunderbird , it looses emails right left and centre.

I used to use a POP client called Agent and had no problems with it at all but a change onto IMAP because of remote devices like phones, tablets and laptops made Agent obsolete but I sure miss it.

I used to use mozilla thunderbird but found it had reliability issues on Windows (but then so does windoze itself, I'm no lover of MS) so can't recommend. I'm trying out the latest version just for kicks on my mac, time will tell

I've used Thunderbird for several years on my PC, and my wife on her Mac, with no issues. In my case it serves two Pop and one imap account. Now also provides calendar. I've used Outlook / Exchange for work email for years and it works ok but wouldn't choose Outlook for personal use. On my Android phone I started recently to use BlueMail as the latest android release uses Gmail for everything and it's USELESS! Have also used something called myMail on iPad but would not recommend it!

I've used Thunderbird for many years without any sort of problem. It

consolidates mail from several different POP and imap e-mail accounts. I don't use a Windows OS, maybe that's why I have no problems?

used Thunderbird for years (mostly on Linux) having migrated from Eudora no problems tho suspect my usage of just a few accounts might not be typical – not an MS user now however MS has recently acknowledged it needs to live with Linux but most of that organisation still seems to see Linux as a cancer on the body of American capitalism.

Another a happy Thunderbird user here. I have have used it for at least 12 years on both Linux and various releases of Windows and have yet to lose an email.

Like Roger, I have it configured to handle multiple email accounts – currently three IMAP and two POP accounts. Thunderbird works well enough for me that I have never felt the need to look for an alternative

Gave up on Thunderbird too, feels like a poor relation of Firefox. In all honesty getting Outlook was like sinking into a warm bath.

Gmail is OK if you aren't paranoid about Google sifting your email. I use a gmail address for places that might spam me.

Also check as your email provider may have an decent online reader.

Thunderbird works well at work on MS 8.1 no problems, you can colour code your emails of your choice. select a colour to show importance or just to keep track of them, great.

Thunderbird's worked with no problems at all on my Linux PC for 2 years, and this thread has reminded me to do a much overdue back of my emails.

+1 for Thunderbaird. Oldest saved email I have in it is June 2003 – 2 POP3 email accounts, has survived all the Thunderbird updates over the years, installation on Windows XP/7/8.1 and 10 and to my knowledge I've not lost an email yet.

123-reg what appears to be a pretty good reader. They offer the choice of OX7 or OX6 when you log on, but as I use Outlook I haven't really explored it.

Thunderbird works fine for me, having migrated from XP through to W10 over the years. Others clearly have issues, which seems to suggest that It's a combination of service provider, hardware and software that causes the problems rather than just the reader. I guess it's a question of finding the e-mail client that works for you.

I have used Thunderbird on Windows XP, and then on Linux Mint without any major problems. I have, at the last count, something like 12 email addresses plus a lot on a spamguard setup. I'm not actually sure how it works, but of these 12 addresses, three are on two other ISP's, yet Thunderbird just sends and receives ok, I think via the main ISP.

There is a minor problem, which may be due to the spam settings i have setup in that occasionally, emails end up in the junk folder, but it's no big deal to check every few days.

I mostly use Live Mail but BT Yahoo Mail is better when sending attachments. Other than that I use Orange email for spammy stuff.

Pegasus Mail without question – has seved me well for decades, is completely free and it is more fully featured than any other I've ever tried:

Has very flexible configurastion, spam filtering, etc. Handles over 20 Gb (!) of emails for me, dating back to the mid '90s, flawlessly. And it's still under active development. Windows only but I believe it runs on Linux under WINE.

Why do you want an eMail client? Time to embrace the cloud! Loads of choices of browser based services now (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, BT Mail, etc) which are much easier to manage if you have more than one device.

'Time to embrace the cloud' think I'll wait until I'm sitting on them ! Steve seriously never given it a thought and must admit I avoid anything to do with the 'cloud' like the plauge maybe I shouldn't maybe I'll check it out but thanks to everyone for the replies.

The 'Cloud' is all well and good until as last week our router said it had a good connection but no response from the web – so what do you do then.

I have tried to find out what happens when you have software that runs from the 'Cloud' and you loose connection, anyone know!

Not sure about the 'cloud', I have access to Gmail, outlook, windows live mail, virgin media mail & can't say as I have had too many problems with any of them, inc. attachments.
