Mick,
between the chrome lever and the end of the housing there should be a locking screw, may have a plastic knob, may be a socket cap or grub screw. There is another one on the opposite side of the housing in a similar position.
To change the tension undo these screws, then use the chrome lever to loosen/tighten the belt.
Hold the tension on the chrome lever while you re-tighten the nearest locking screw, this will hold it while you tighten the other.
The motor mount runs on 2 round bars inside the housing, hence the 2 locking screws.
