I bought these boring tools on Ebay. When I fit them to my usual Dickson tool holder the flats on the boring-bar body set the replaceable tip at a considerable downward angle (see photo). Is this the way they're supposed to be when cutting, or do I need to make an angled adapter to hold them horizontal in the Dickson ?

Correct as shown. Gives clearance below the cutting point.

Beat me too it; the tool tip should be on center line.

Thanks. I tried both positions, and neither gave a particularly good finish. I'll try a different insert and see if that's any better.

I have been doing quite a bit with the boring bar in stainless. It is only the 12mm size, but to get a good finish I have to take very shallow cuts. There are articles somewhere about how they flex. For instance run the bar in & then back out. Take it back in without adjusting & it may take more metal away. Also I only go through at a slow rate. Seem to spend more time taking the birds nests out of the hole once it gets deep. Only a learner myself but hope it helps.

                Steve.
