I have recently aquired a Fobco Star bench mounted pillar drill. I am going to service it and convert it to single phase using an inverter. I have two questions:

      • Does anyone know what threads are used on the clamp bolts and depth gauge etc? Some of mine are damaged/missing. I assume they are imperial but BS or UN?
      • Is there a preferred VFD supplier or make? The motor is a dual voltage 0.3hp Crompton. Are the cheap Chinese ones on Ebay any good?

      Many thanks for your views…

Threre shouldn't be any UN threads. I've just made a couple of depth stop nuts for my Fobco. 1/2" BSF. I've also just converted it to 3-phase. A TEC 550W motor, on which I modified the feet to match the Fobco mount and a £50 ebay inverter. All seems good so far.

Note, My Fobco is about 50 years old, I don't know if threads changed in later years, but I somehow doubt it.
